Since our beginnings in 1991, we have introduced over 1.3 million guests to the natural wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. Our eco-certified tours take guests to explore two pristine Outer Barrier Reef locations, Moore Reef and Arlington Reef, which can be explored off our refurbished floating Marine Bases.
Our Marine Bases provide instant access to the incredible marine life and coral, and are equipped with extra activities designed to help any age or ability experience what the Outer Reef has to offer.
We are a market leader in interactive, innovative reef experiences, creating the Sunlover Sunslide - the only theme park water slide on the Great Barrier Reef on our Moore Reef Marine Base and Sunlover Funlover - the world's first dedicated charter venue moored on the Great Barrier Reef.
Our Sunlover by Starlight overnight reef experience regularly features in global media, and our citizen science program Marine Biologist for a Day provides educational reef experiences to school groups from Australia, China, United States, New Zealand, Japan and the UK.
We regularly partner with organisations such as the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, Tourism Tropical North Queensland and Tourism & Events Queensland to host media from around the world on our two outer Great Barrier Reef sites at Arlington and Moore Reefs.
We love showing guests and film crews how spectacular the Great Barrier Reef is, and in the past 12 months have hosted teams from a broad spectrum of media including:
In all aspects of our business we are guided by the following commitments:
We employ approximately 80-100 staff, located in Cairns. We are a close, hard-working team; passionate about the reef and love to share it's magnificence with our guests who come from all over the world.
We have been an ECO CERTIFIED TOURISM OPERATOR for 14 years and we are now an accredited Green Travel Leader. Our Moore Reef Marine Base is part of the ‘Marine National Park (Green) Zones’ as defined by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) and we participate in GBRMPA programs such as Eye on the Reef, Crown of Thorns starfish eradication, and Master Reef Guides.
We contributed to the founding of the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre and frequently assist with turtle releases from our Moore Reef Marine Base. We were also a founding Citizens Circle Member of the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef.
As well as participation in these major environmental initiatives, we continually challenge ourselves as a business to make changes to negate our impact on the environment. For example, we were industry leaders in banishing straws as part of the Straw no More initiative, the first an only reef operator to stock Great Barrier Reef Beer from the Good Beer Co who donate 10% of proceeds to marine conservation and we recently sent two of the Sunlover team to join Al Gore at a Climate Reality Leadership Corps training event.
