David Kingston, owner of leading tour and hospitality brands Sunlover Reef Cruises and heritage listed Hides Hotel, welcomes Eugene Kotze into the role of Group General Manager.
Mr Kotze, having lived in Cairns since 2011, and originally from South Africa, brings to the role years of experience in customer service, logistics and business management across a number of retail and manufacturing brands both in Australia and overseas. He joins the company as tourism in Tropical North Queensland measures record numbers from key Asian markets, as well a resurgence in visitors from long term traditional western countries.
Mr Kotze’s appointment comes at an exciting and pivotal time, as the company positions itself for growth and expansion announcing a $4million investment package that will include the addition of a new pontoon at Moore Reef, combined with major vessel upgrades. Both slated for completion this year. By making these major upgrades, Sunlover will be able to deliver a heightened level of service and comfort to guests from all over the world, from current and emerging visitor markets – and lead the industry in the provision of a world-class experience within a World Heritage Area.
Plans are also underway to leverage from the recent inner city Lakes Street Mall and Shields Street upgrades, and inject investment into Hides Hotel, the heritage listed building dating back to 1928.
“As a mad boatie and diver in my personal time, I am very passionate about the reef and local area, and to guiding our Sunlover Reef Cruises’ and Hides Hotel teams’ into a new era, Eugene said”. “I also look forward to forging relationships with the NQ tourism industry and business community along the way”, he said.
